Things To Do In Portland This Weekend

Friday, September 28th @ 7:30pm Powell’s City of Books on Burnside sponsers an evening with Greil Marcus, author of In the Shape of Things to Come.
Friday, September 28th @ 7pm Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing presents an evening with Alice Walker (most notably famous for The Color Purple). Walker returns to authoring with a picture book, including a poem “Why War Is Never A Good Idea”.
Friday, September 28th @ 7:00pm, Powell’s will sponser Steven Pinker’s presentation of The Stuff of Thought: Language as a Window Into Human Nature at the Bagdad Theater. Tickets to this event are $21; books will be distributed at the event as well.
Saturday, September 29 @ 1pm, take a public tour of the Highlights of the Permanent Collection at The Portland Art Museum. This tour is free with museum admission ($10 adults, $9 seniors 55+ & students 19+, $6 youth & free for those under age 4).
The Oregon Zoo begins its World Animal Festival on Saturday, September 29. The event is free with zoo admission ($9.75 adults, $8.25 seniors 65+, $6.75 children 3-11, free admission for infants 2 & under.) Please follow the link to see the scheduled events - including henna tattooing, origami & story-telling.
The Oregon Museum of Science & Industry will be showing Gunter VanHagen’s Body Worlds 3 until October 6th. If you haven’t seen this exhibit yet, you will not be disappointed in what you’ll see. Tickets to Body Worlds 3 run $21 for Adult, $15 for children 3-18. “To ensure an enriching experience for all, OMSI asks that a responsible adult, parent, guardian, or school chaperone accompany children under the age of 12. Due to the sensitive nature of the exhibit, OMSI recommends it for children ages 10+.”
Every weekend from March through December 24th, the city of Portland hosts it’s Portland Saturday Market. Entrance to the market is free and you can spend all day there visiting hundreds of booths ranging from cat toys to handmade soaps to bird baths. Saturday the market is open from 10am-5pm and on Sunday from 11am-4:30pm.
