Dumb Laws and Silly Ordinances of Portland
Friday, May 4th, 2007For the most part, laws were intended to protect people and preserve property. Most of the time, there is a reson why the law was created in the first place. There are one or two on the list that just seem to be common sense, but then again - common sense should tell a person not to use a blow dryer in the shower, also. But since it’s on the warning label, we’ll have to assume someone has tried it! (By the way, DON’T try it!!) On the other hand, some laws just don’t make any sense at all. If you know some history on why these were created, please let us know.
- It’s against the law for a wedding ceremony to be performed at a skating rink.
- People may not whistle underwater.
- You cannot wear roller skates in restrooms.
- Shoelaces must be tied while walking down the street.
- No one may attempt to cause someone to think that their property may be subjected to “offensive physical contact”.
- Minors may not enter a room where a “social game” is being played.
- Trucks may not be parked on the street.
- Riders of sleds may not attach themselves to passing cars.
As for the “Parking Only” sign, I found that a few miles from home. I’m still wondering what else you could do with a parking spot besides park! Just in case you’re in the mood for some more crazy laws, here’s a few from Alabama to Illinois. Some are just outright hilarious!
