10 Things I Love About Portland

On my drive home from work today I got to thinking about the things in Portland that I love, so I mentally made a list!

10. I love the weather, whether it’s sunny or rainy, I love the weather. If it rains I wear different clothes. If it’s sunny I roll my windows down while driving.

9. I love driving in Portland. Yes, I love driving in Portland. Most people bitch & moan about the traffic, but I don’t mind it. I like to drive on the freeways, the highways, the main streets, the back streets and down golf cart paths. (Okay, I’ve never tried that last one!)

8. I love SEEING Portland. This is probably why I don’t mind driving in town. I get to see my beautiful city.

7. I love the bridges in Portland. My favorite is The Fremont Bridge especially at sunset or nighttime. Gorgeous.

6. I love being IN Portland. I can get to the beach in an hour, to skiing in an hour, to hiking in 10 minutes, to a relaxing spa in 5 minutes. I can do anything in this city!

5. I love the food in Portland. There is always something new to try around town. I’ve had Indian, Thai, Mexican, Ethiopian, Cuban, American, Italian, and can’t wait to try more.

4. I love the Portland Aerial tram. There, I said it. I admitted it. I love the tram. I smile every time I see it go overhead and I’m not ashamed to say that I think it’s pretty cool. Riding it after a few drinks is even cooler. Riding it after a few drinks with your employee badge on is the coolest though. (I no longer work for OHSU, however. I can talk about that now! LOL)

3. I love shopping in Portland. Whether I want to pay $79 for a tank top (head towards NW 23rd!) or $3 for a tank top (head towards NW 23rd!), I can get it in Portland. I want organic shoes? I can find ‘em in Portland. I want vinyl pants? I can find those in Portland, too!

2. I love the Portland entertainment scene. You might want to catch Justin Timberlake at the Rose Garden (did anyone go last Friday?) or you might want to laugh at karaoke singers at The Green room. You can join a crowd of 13-year-olds at The Lloyd Center for Harry Potter or you can catch a foreign art-flick with a beer at The Aladdin Theater. Either way, you’ll find something to entertain yourself!

1. I love Portlanders. We’re weird, we’re normal, we’re in-between, we’re hippies, we’re yuppies, we’re yippies, we’re pot heads, we’re straight-edge, we’re rich, we’re dirt poor, we’re friendly, we’re grouchy, we’re downtown dwellers, we’re suburb survivors, we’re cyclists, we’re bus-takers, we’re SUV drivers, we’re coffee drinkers, we’re beer makers, we’re wine grape growers, we’re liberal, we’re conservative, and we’re probably all as much in love with this city as I am.

Throughout this blog, I hope to be able to address everything Portland has to offer and everything Portlanders are. *laughs maniacally* Yeah, right. There’s too much of Portland and too many people in Portland to really address everything but I’ll sure be trying!

About Portland, OR

There are a lot of misconceptions about Portland, Oregon. We are not all communists, we are not all hippies, and many of the females do in fact shave. Portland is a vibrant, progressive community that balances the native with the newcomer, the eco-minded with the lumber industry, and the natural with the urban. About Portland, OR is a home for all the contradictions.
